This is a question I hear often, even from those who are closest to me. Often when life gets tough we reach out for help and sometimes we look for professional support when friends and family are no longer able to fill our void. That void could be grief, disappointment, sadness or a general overwhelm that impacts our daily life.
Perhaps this is the sort of counselling that most people are familiar with. The idea of asking for help when you are no longer able to cope and it all feels too heavy.
However, therapy does not need to be in response to a crisis, in fact therapy can be more about personal development and self-awareness.
When training to become a therapist you are required to be in therapy yourself. All good therapists will continue to have their own therapist while in practice. This is not because all psychotherapists are in a state of constant crisis but rather because therapy provides the space for curiosity, self-awareness and personal growth which can be truly transformational.
Therapy will support you to view life through a new lens with clarity and a deeper compassion for the parts of yourself that can cause stress, anxiety or depression.
Therapy doesn’t have to just be about putting out spot fires in life because.........
Life is a journey, not a destination. Therapy can help you make the most of that journey.
